Review of the Dell G5 15 5590 Gaming Laptop (i7-9750H – GTX 1660Ti)

This is my review of the Dell G5 15 5590 Gaming Laptop which I bought directly from for £1099.99p. Normally, it retails for around £1300, but you can usually enter a discount code in the shopping cart.

I should also add, if you’re concerned about fan noise, you can turn off Intel Turbo boost within the BIOS, which limits the processor speed to 2.56 GHz, rather than 4.5 GHz. I don’t notice much, if any difference to performance.

The specifications are as followed:

9th Generation Intel Core i7-9750H (12MB Cache, up to 4.5 GHz, 6 cores)

Windows 10 Home 64bit English

8GB, 2x4GB, DDR4, 2666MHz

256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400 rpm 2.5″ SATA Hard Drive (Storage)

15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 300nits IPS Anti-Glare LED Backlit Display with 144Hz refresh rate.

1. 2-in-1 SD/MicroMedia Card | 2. USB 3.1 | 3. Power | 4. HDMI 2.0 | 5. USB 3.1 | 6. Mini DisplayPort | 7. RJ-45 Killer Networks 2500V2 Gigabit Ethernet Port | 8. Wedge Lock Slot | 9. USB-C DisplayPort/ USB-C Thunderbolt | 10. SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A with PowerShare | 11. Headphone Jack.

1. Height: 23.7 mm (0.95″) |2. Width: 364.3 mm (14.3″) |3. Depth: 273.4 mm (10.8″) Starting Weight: 2.68 kg (5.9 lbs.)

  1. I was going to skip that laptop because the lack of optical drive, then I knew that all laptops don't have an optical drive now

  2. Thanks for this video. Mine comes with a 2060 RTX but no finger print reader. It just had a bad and slow 500 GB M.2 wich I switched for a 1TB better quality one. This was not the laptop I wanted, but I'm impressed anyway. Estetics is not the best, but it's a beast for gaming much better than my old PS4. Your video lacks a comment about heat while gaming; mine reaches no more than 80 grades celcius but the machine is a noisy one just like you stated it. In general terms I'm happy with my purchase.

  3. I recently got this Laptop as my first ever gaming PC I would've had for many years. I was stuck with my xbox and nintendo stuff and some PC and never had a gaming computer. As the first ever experience. Even i dont know too much about laptops too well. But i can tell ya that it can run Call of Duty Black ops 3. The fans can be pretty quiet until you try to max it out. But When it is not charging it will go from between 5 to 25 fps. When its charging it goes 60 fps. Not a surprise. But I love it so far

  4. What is the point of showing game footage without the FPS? Your youtube video isn't even at 60fps to actually show how it runs without the numbers. No mention of thermals, no mention of fan noise.

  5. Hi there, stumbled upon your video as i was having issues with my G5 machine. I have the same Dell G5 with 144hz screen specs, but i couldn't see the 144hz refresh rate in display settings, is this expected? I have a case with Dell for a couple of weeks now to figure out. Is your display settings in windows showing 144hz?

  6. I have a question Sir !!
    Hope you'll reply..
Can you tell me how it's temperature reacts in high temperature outside … ?? Because I am done with my burning laptop in 40c here…

  7. I'm probably gonna get this soon for school and casual gaming. I've done my research on it and I'm looking forward to using this

edit: yup I've decided, this is perfect for me because I won't be playing stupid demanding games cause I have a desktop for that and the version I'm getting has 512 SSD which is plenty for me as I'll probably only play games like Minecraft, terraria or maybe the occasional black ops 3, which is most likely fine if I turn down my settings. Though the laptop is heavy and the distance from my home to school is a fair bit away, I'm perfectly willing and capable of carrying it back and forth

  8. Nice video man. It doesn't definitely sound like many paid reviews round there which is great. Well done. Thanks. 👍

  10. How much it takes for full charge? And what should i buy? this laptop or legion y540 or acer helios 300 (2019) all of them with gtx 1660 ti and i7-9750h

  11. Hey! Nice video! Thanks a lot. I am between this and the dell G3. Do you think there is a big difference between them? G3 is quite more cheap u see…

  12. Thank you for the Review =)
One short question, are the fan´s run all the time? Even on battery when you just browse the web or very light office tasks?

  13. Can this laptop work with Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Recorder – Thunderbolt? to attach an external camera
