Dell G7 15" Gaming Laptop Review

Lisa Gade reviews the Dell G7, a new 2018 line of entry to mid-level gaming laptops from Dell (there’s also a G3 and G5 in this series). The Dell G7 7588 starts at $849, and our unit sells for around $1050 with a 1080p display, Intel 8th gen 6 core Coffee Lake Core i7-8750H, NVIDIA GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics, 16GB DDR4 2666 MHz RAM, a 128GB boot SATA3 SSD and a 1 TB 5400 RPM HDD. This is the evolution of the Inspiron Gaming line, with a few design cues from the more expensive Alienware line. It’s available in your choice of licorice black or alpine white. The laptop has a blue backlit keyboard with number pad, easily upgradeable internals, Intel WiFi with Bluetooth 5.0, and Thunderbolt 3. Lower end configs have an NVIDIA GTX 1050 or GTX 1050Ti and a Core i5-8300H. Higher end options include a Core i9-9850HK and an optional matte non-touch UHD 4K display.

  1. Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone! Makes me smile. I'll probably be getting sinus surgery soon so I won't get sick every 3 months anymore. Heck, my nose might even get a little smaller LOL.

  2. This Finish is not available anymore in Dell.Com.. too bad i was just in a market looking for nice not overly priced system that could fit my budget but this finish is not available anymore. make this finish available again and ill buy this ASAP

  3. The Screen is easily replaceable Lisa with quite a bit better one available on ebay and with a 120 or 144 hz also, or if you prefer a higher color gamut, as long you take note of a similar resolution and pin. like a 30 pin, which is what most of these machines have.

  4. This one or the new Y530 with 1060?
The seem to be internally the same, just wondering about screen, trackpad and battery life

  5. G7 users please tell me how you like this laptop? If I get this, this would be my first dell. How's the hardware? and the over all performance?

  6. Nice ! This is a real review without shouting and fast moving frames. I just bought this and think the offset touchpad is a turn off. Moreover, it's heavy and seems really large for a 15.4. /meh could be me. I subscribed because I like the way you present and as an IT pro myself, I like that you don't dumb it down too much. I'm sold. Then I bought one. It's really big. we'll see. Edit… I hated it and sent it back. The keyboard and the touch pad were terrible to the point I hated typing on it.

  7. How about g7 v xps ??? i dont game but i have 100 tabs open on browser
most of the time – so power is appreciated – 16gb sounds good – i also
need Office/Excel etc – does the XPS include it already bundled in?

  8. Hi Lisa ! Thank you for the help. You are my go to before I purchase my toys. You are to the point and nice.

  9. this a very detailed review 🙂 thank you 🙂 Uhm, can you make a "vs video" between G7 with 1050TI and Lenovo y530 with the same specs.
